Multimedia Learning!

Dr. Ray Pastore discussed several multimedia learning (MML) principles.

This week I learned many multimedia learning principles. I made a brief list of some of the principles that struck out to me:

– Redundancy: this principle states that people learn better from narration and graphics than from narration, text, and graphics. This maybe important we using too many multimedia components might be redundant in the delivery on the content, and may also cause slight distraction.

– The modality principle: this principle discusses how we learn more efficiently when graphics are present along with a narration of the content, rather than just having text and graphics on the screen. Therefore, implanting this principle into a PowerPoint can enhance the presentation.

A learning principle that I used in the past without realizing was the learner control principle. This principle suggests that people can learn better when they are able to control the pace that their new information is being presented. This principle can provide opportunities to stop, start and replay animations into the presentation, reflect on some of all of the questions, assess the audience’s understanding, and finally resume when ready to continue with the presentation.

Personally, the principles of multimedia learning google document was extremely interesting to read and learn all these principle as they can help with future multimedia projects.
